Dualistic thinking drawing

Dualistic thinking.

The tree is a reference to The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in the garden of Eden. I like the interpretation that this story is about the introduction of dualistic thinking to Adam and Eve. If we are born innocent, then perhaps our society and culture of today is the new version of the serpent, where we are made to believe that the 'self' is all important and by being better, more special or materialistically richer than others, we will achieve happiness. In the drawing, the figures represent comparison, differentiation and separation, the foundation of dualistic thinking. Beyond the tree is stillness, presence and a place without thoughts. A place where the idea of a separate self has no meaning.

The picture is drawn with lamp black oil paint onto handmade paper.
